In my search for Frankenstein resources, I found this! This list is pretty thorough as far as literature usually taught in high school goes. It ranges from Shakespeare to Orwell to Laurie Halse Anderson. And I just learned that Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” was inspired by Frankenstein: WIN!

The list notes the songs that have been confirmed as inspiration for a song, but also includes many songs that are just thematically relevant to use as discussion or analysis points.

I think I will adapt this a bit to use in my classroom on the first day. It will help the table groups gel. Most of the students in my class know each other. We have very low turnover, and many of students stay in our school from K-8. But we do have 3-4 new students in each class, each year, so it will also help the new kids get to know their classmates.

I’ve written before about how I use Late Passes in my classes, but I made a new version this year [more on each page - no cutting edges!] and figured I’d upload it to share. Click on the picture for the Word document.

I use Late Passes so I don’t have to sort through which excuses are legitimate or not. Students get to decide what they want to sacrifice their late pass for - it builds responsibility and decision-making skills.

If they decide to use their Late Pass, they just attach it to their late work the next day. I don’t take Late Passes without the late work - that way it’s their responsibility to make sure to turn it in.

This year, because I’m accepting electronic work, I’m going to make an Excel document with each student’s name on it and whether they’ve used their pass yet.
